Taking the walks [for a walk]

Walks with[out] edges generated 52 collages that fused together experiences of walks in different places across the world. The collages were collaged together and printed onto fabric so that we might carry the collaged walks with us on our walks. For 4 weeks we explored ways of taking the walks for a walk in our own locations.

Large linen versions were exhibited at Watford Museum in April 2022 and the silk prints were worn as a Sari by Pragya Bhargava at the exhibition opening and cut into scarves for people to take on a series of walks in May 2022.

    Letting Go

The walk inspired these words by Rosemary

    A Scarf’s Tale

I am a dream. Circling round I hear the sound of feet, large, small, stepping spiritedly, scuffling slowly but all heading to one shared goal. Voices from around the world are in my being, are my being. Around my world words are carried, eyes are seeing, visions interpreted in their own meaningful ways. Snapshots for my birth from words. So I was born. With loving care the dream is melded, transcribed, made physical by so many processes, so many processors.

The vision, gently gathered, found home in India. A grouping of cells linked by a multitude of paths from an assemblage of ideas, a patchwork of inspired art. The dream, epitomising feet, steps, voices, visions and words, was silk worn gloriously in traditional Indian form, beauty clothing beauty. Then across continents to England where my second metamorphosis occurs. Sundered into many parts I have multiplied and spread my essence throughout the globe. Words, experiences and sights are spread afar.

The warmth of a neck gives me comfort. I flutter my vision in the trees. Now I am a crown with hair intertwining with my words. Now I fly weightlessly through the air twisting and turning in the breeze. Now I swirl as gently to earth as a feather and am gathered close to hearts. Now I lie to rest in many spaces, softened among other beings but none so soft as I and here I wait for some new form, experience, will morph me to reveal my future beings.

    Art is my dream.
